Meeting re-cap 3/30

Last week Connor Lund and Michael Wehling served as our greeters. George Morgan gave our invocation. Secretary Dave Laferla and Hanging Judge Kevin Welsh handed out several fines for our newsworthy Rotarians. We had several announcements and presentations. Terri Greenwood introduced Dr. Wesley Grigsby and CEO Ian Vickers of Global Partners in Hope. They talked about their work in Mali. The RISK bag was at $1095 and Alan Stanek won a free lunch.

Some members have asked for a copy of Alan Stanek's invocation a couple of weeks ago Train of Life. It is reprinted below:

The Train of Life

At birth, we board a train and meet our parents. We believe they will always travel by our side. However, at some station, our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone.

As time goes by, other people will board the train. They will be significant -- siblings, friends, the love of your life, children and many others. Some will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we won't realize they vacated their seats.

The train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, good-byes and farewells. A successful ride requires having a good relationship with all passengers. We must give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is, we do not know at which station we will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty, we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.

I wish you a joyful journey on the train of life. Reap success and give lots of love. More important, thank God for the journey.

I thank you for being one of the passengers on my train.

Local Foundation 2017 Fundraiser

Thank you to all those who have already pledged or given to this year's Fundraiser. The funds raised go to build our local Foundation for scholarships and other projects that our club does. Our goal this year is 44K. We will recognize all those who donate or pledge $300 or more as members of this year's Presidents' Scholarship Circle. The annual Leonard and Shirley Goldstein Lecture on Human Rights is sponsored by the UNO College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Religious Studies, and SPHRS (Spirituality, Public Health, and Religious Studies).

Service Projects on April 29th

Volunteers are needed for 2 Service Projects on April 29th

We will be helping safely dispose of prescription drugs with Livewise and the DEA (3 shifts available)

We will also be helping with yardwork for Rebuilding Together Omaha (2 shifts available)

Wine and Dine at Rotary on April 27th!

The Membership Committee is conducting a contest between now and April 20th.
