Last week Leah Koch and Dan Hosford served as Greeters. Billy Weiland gave the invocation. David Gerard led the singing. President Roxy Orr recognized Mei Wu as a Rotarian that "Lights Up Rotary" for all her Rotary enthusiasm. We had several announcements and presentations. Hanging Judge Fritz Stehlik and Secretary Nick Jasa handed out some "clipping" fines and Fritz ended up getting one of his own for a video. Secretary Nick Jasa introduced Dan Hosford as the "Rotarian of the Day". Matt Darling introduced Lyn Wallin Zeigenbein who talked about volunteerism in the Omaha community. The RISK bag was at $45 and Norm Kerr won a free lunch.

The Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation supports our annual scholarship program for special-needs students as well as other local and international projects.

Every year each Rotarian is asked to donate $100 to the Rotary Foundation in support of programs that alleviate disease, hunger, poverty, and promote peach and understanding. We have seen the benefit of supporting the Rotary Foundation in the last few years with matching grants to support the Deaf School in Nicaragua and the girls' school in Afghanistan. The generosity of Rotarians around the world make these projects (and thousands like them) possible.

Save the date for the November Keep the Kids Warm After Hours at Lindley Clothing on November 20th from 5-7pm. Will feature food from Frank's pizza, beverages, and music by Mark Sanford. Donations of gently used coats (kids and adult sizes) are appreciated and cash donations to purchase clothing/coats.

It's time for that annual Suburban Rotary tradition- bell ringing for the Salvation Army! Due to some scheduling issues with JCPenney/Salvation Army, we have new locations: Bakers at 155th and Dodge and 2 HyVee Stores (90th and Center and 132nd and Dodge). We will ring bells on Saturday, November 29th and Saturday, December 13th from 10am-4pm in 1.5 hour shifts. All shifts will be outside so please dress warmly and wear your Rotarian At Work t-shirt over your coat.
We have 4 shifts at 5 locations on two dates so we need 80 volunteers. Please feel free to sign up your friends, families, kids, grandkids, etc. Just register them as "Bob's kids, etc."
To sign up click on the event in the newsletter or on the calendar on the website, then it will ask you to login. After logging in, choose BELL RINGING and pick your shift.
Since we don't meet on Thanksgiving, we are asking you to consider donating your lunch money ($15) from that day to buy an attendance credit (will be used for your next missed meeting) and all the proceeds will go to Polio Plus!
It's time to start collecting for the annual Santa's Workshop at Crestridge Magnet School.
Each year, Crestridge Elementary School sets up a “store” to shop for holiday gifts for children that are in need. These children come into the store and may pick out a gift for each of their family members. Last year, there were 80 – 90 kids that came through the shop. With the help of the Crestridge School, we have made a “wish list” of items that are most chosen by the kids, and a list of items that they wish not to be donated. The date of the event is December 15th. We are hoping for each Rotarian to donate gently used or new item(s) to help make the Santa Shop a success. These items do not need to be expensive.
Wish list….Key chains, wallets, ties, little purses, cutesy kid socks, adult socks, coffee mugs, tools, men’s and women’s cologne, sports stuff, makeup, jewelry, stuffed animals, UNO cards, playing cards, coloring books and crayons, scarves, mittens, toys, baby toys, cutesy picture frames…or tissue paper and gift bags of all sizes.
Since we know that people’s lives are busy, we are offering an easy shopping idea this year. We will have two baskets available for purchase, one for $10 and one for $20. These baskets will contain assorted items from the wish list. We will have baskets available for purchase at our next meeting on November 6th. Of course, you may make a cash donation in any amount and that will be used to purchase items for the shop. Thank you very much for helping make this year’s Santa Shop a success.
Satellite Member Al Frank recently showed his 1955 Thunderbird at the Tucson Classics Car Show which is the main fundraiser for the largest Rotary club in Tucson, AZ.
