Meeting re-cap 2/18

Last week Jeremy Nichols and Karen Rolf served as our greeters. Rose Mary Hefley gave our invocation. We had several announcements. We also had several of our Rotaract members as guests. In honor of President's Day, Curt Peters recognized all our Past Presidents (and future President Kathryn Schubert) as Rotary "Gifts to the World". Amanda Shaeffer introduced Stacy DeMuth who talked to us about the Youth Emergency Services mission. The RISK bag was at $297 and Dick Caulk won a free lunch.

Congratulations and Thank You!

to Rose Mary Hefley who was recognized as a Friend of Suburban Rotary for her donations of $2500 to our local Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation by Matt Darling. The local Foundation supports our scholarship program and many other projects of the club including the meal packaging we did over the weekend.

Meal Packaging

A very successful project was held on Saturday at Heavy Duty Specialists where Rotarians packaged 30,000 meals for local families in need. Recipients of the food were: Food Bank, Siena Francis House, Good News Bears, Omaha Street School, and Omaha Home for Boys. Around 150 volunteers of all ages came and worked packaging macaroni and cheese for these pantries. The project was facilitated by Outreach, an Iowa-based non-profit. Funds were provided by YOU when you gave to the International and local Charitable Foundations. Funds came back to us from Rotary International in the form of a District Grant which was matched with funds from our club's Foundation, West Rotary, and SW Omaha Rotary. In addition, the $784 we raised at the Souper Bowl Food Drive was used to purchase additional ingredients.

A special thank you to Walt Horner for volunteering all of his time and facility and to Nick Jasa (and family) who helped organize and lead!

Buy the Big Wheel

Mark your calendar and invite your colleagues to the Annual Metro Rotary Networking Night "Buy the Big Wheel". Booths are sold out so we hope to see you and hundreds of your closest friends and co-workers there to socialize and network. We will be giving away 6 Kindle Fire tablets as door prizes and fabulous food and drinks will be provided. Please share on your social networks. You do not need to be a Rotarian to attend.

Rotary Softball?

The 2016 Rotary Rec Co-ed Softball Team is forming now. Please let Jennifer or Nick Jasa if you are interested. Games will be Sunday evenings April-August. Cost will be around $70. We play in the "very recreational" league.

Rotary Book Club

The February Book is "Gray Mountain" by John Grisham and the March Book is "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.

We have decided to now have the Book Club on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Bookworm at 90th & Center.

New members welcome- join us!

Participation counts as an attendance credit, the books are great reads, and it is fun to get together to discuss our various opinions on the books at the meetings!
