Meeting re-cap 8/17/17 
Last week Jack Hosking and Rose Mary Hefley served as our Greeters. Mary Bernier gave our invocation. We had several presentations and a new member introduction. Julie Livingston filled in as President and Secretary Katie Henry and Hanging Judge Alan Simon gave Frank Goldberg a "shipping and handling" fee for the honor of serving on the nominating committee for President of Rotary International.  Cindy Kinsler introduced Abby Lathrop who talked about the impact of Big Brothers Big Sisters have on youth. The RISK bag was at $146 and Steve Riekes won a free lunch. 
 
Welcome Derek Brazda! 
Last week Randy Wieseler introduced us to new member Derek Brazda.  
Derek Brazda is the Owner of Platte’s Edge Ag Services.  He is an experienced agronomist with over eight years of experience in the industry.  Five years with Platte’s Edge which he created and three years with Cargill in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Derek graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in General Agribusiness. He was the President of Arizona State University National Agra-Marketing Association.  He was the Graduate of the Year at the Morrison School of Agribusiness.  While at Arizona State he was an active member of the rowing team and has tried out for the U.S. Olympic team. 
 
Derek loves fishing, especially ice fishing with friends and his father.  He also likes to rebuild antique and collectible tractors with his father.  He also loves to barbeque.  He is married to Denae and they have a nine month old son name Henry.   Derek is the son-in-law of Rotarian Randy Wieseler. Welcome, Derek!

Rotary Foundation
Congratulations and thank you to the Rotarians who were recognized by Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Roxy Orr last week for their generosity to the Rotary Foundation.  The Rotary Foundation is the charity of Rotary.   Through Rotary grants, people around the world are served with educational opportunities, health services, clean water, vaccinations, and nutrition.   Ed Fleming was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+1 for his donations of $2000. Alan Stanek was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+5 for his donations of $6000. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Great Suburban Duck Race! 
Last week Gitzy Loder and Michelle Schrage were our Greeters. Andy Goranson gave our invocation. We had several announcements and a new member introduction.   Membership Chair Rich Rowland kicked off our Great Suburban Duck Race contest in honor of our 50th anniversary year.   
 
Check out your badge when you are at Rotary- each team is divided into ducklings of one color. The head ducks of each team are:
Pink-Rose Mary Hefley
Green- Gary Stoneburg
Red - Holly Hollenbeck
Blue- Bob Perrin
Yellow- John Hoich
Black- Marlene Sullivan
Purple- Ashley Baker
 
Each team of "ducks" will race to bring in new members this year with an eye on improving our diversity and percentage of female members. We are also targeting new retirees and younger members.  Help grow Suburban Rotary and help your team to win bragging rights!
 
 
 
Foot Care Clinic for the Homeless 
To sign up to help at this event (assist medical students, hand out water/snacks, check in, etc. ) go to the website suburbanrotary.org and click on the calendar and on the date of the event and log in to sign up.  The great project is being paid for by a District Grant and funds from our local Suburban Rotary Foundation.

Meeting Price Increase 
Effective this week, August 3rd, our meeting cost will go to $8 and the meeting with a meal will be $16.  Prepaid tickets can be used with an extra dollar. 
Rotary Book Club
The next book selection is "Me Before You" by JoJo Moyes.  They meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month (September 12th) at  Wheatfields 108th and Pacific. Please contact Lisa Neu with any questions. 
 
 
 
Monster Mash
