Last week Dan Wellendorf served as our greeter. Patrick Moylan gave our invocation. We had several announcements and presentations. Julie Livingston filled in as Secretary and recognized some January birthdays and handed out some fines with the help of Hanging Judge Fritz Stehlik. We had a new member introduction. Curt Peters recognized Scott Cernik and Marlene Sullivan as Rotary "Gifts to the World" for hosting annual After Hours at Skate Daze and Lindley Clothing. Bob Perrin introduced club member Dave Kerber who talked to us about his experience living homeless in Omaha for a week. The RISK bag was at $153 and Holly Hollenbeck won a free lunch.
Last week Foundation Chair Julie Livingston recognized Rotarians for their giving to the International Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation supports causes around the world including health, nutrition, literacy, and disease-eradication efforts. Rotary Foundation funds have been used by our club to send science kits to the girls' school in Afghanistan, as well as for local projects such as the Crestridge Health Fair.
Howard Shrier, Edna Brooks Pittman, and Ralph Williams were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows+1 for their donations of $2000 to the Rotary Foundation.
Howard Shrier (not pictured) said because of his travel schedule he had to drop out of Suburban for a time. “It was easy to come back because of the good Suburban and the greater Rotary do in the world. I appreciate the members and the commitments they’ve made and I feel a personal responsibility to contribute as well.”
Edna Brooks-Pittman said she gives because she believes one we should gather as one with one “pot” so we can give to the most worthy causes.
Ralph Williams said “It’s a unique opportunity where we can impact people all over the world, including eradicating Polio, helping girls get an education in Afghanistan, and helping educate deaf children in Nicaragua. It’s the best use of money I can think of.”
Roger Groff was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+3 for his donations of $4000 to the Rotary Foundation. He said, “It’s the thing to do. TRF does great things for people in the world. These days we need to get together more than ever.”

Last week Steve Oltmans introduced us to new member Jeremy Nichols. Jeremy is an Engineer with E & A Consulting. He graduated from Iowa State with a B.S. in Civil Engineering with an Environmental Minor. He is an active community member involved with B'nai B'rith, Omaha Jaycees, and other organizations. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys intramural sports, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. Welcome Jeremy!

Congrats to Rich and Tracy Rowland who are in San Diego for the 2nd year training all of the incoming District Governors. There are 40 trainers from around the world training all 535 District Governors-Elect from around the world. It's awesome to have them representing the "Best Rotary Club in the Universe" on the intl. stage.

On February 5/6 we will be conducting our annual Souper Bowl Food Drive collecting funds at HyVee at 90th and Center. This year the funds will be added to our Outreach project (see below) to provide meals for local food pantries. We need Rotarians to take 1.5 hr shifts on Friday, February 5th-4-7 and then Saturday, February 6th 10-4. Please sign up on the website.
On February 20th, Rotarians from Suburban, West, and Southwest Rotary Night Club will be packaging 30-40K meals for local food pantries using a matching grant from District 5650. Please go on our website to sign up for a shift. We strongly encourage you to bring friends and family to this event. Your church group, your Scout troop, your kids' friends. We will need 80 people from 8-9 and 80 people from 930-1030 to package all of these meals. People of all ages are welcome. When signing up kids, please note their ages (kids under 12 will work with their parents). Also, if anyone needs to sit instead of stand, please note that in the comments as well. We will accommodate volunteers of all ages/abilities.
The meals will be picked up at the end of 2nd shift by local food pantries. We can also use 8-10 volunteers on Friday, February 19th to help set up this event. Please let Jennifer know if you'd like to help with that.
