Last week Mary Bernier introduced us to new member David Richards. Dave has served as the Dean of Library Services at the University of Nebraska at Omaha since January of 2016. He holds a Master's degree in History from Western Illinois University. He also earned a Masters of Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University and attended Rare Book School at the University of Virginia. He and his wife Kristine were in the Fall 2016 class of the Chamber's Omaha Executive Institute. Prior to arriving in Omaha, Dave served as the head of the rare books department at Missouri State University for nearly 20 years. While at Missouri State, he also taught several courses as an associate professor on the history of libraries and the art of the book. Prior to his work at MSU, Richards spent time as a rare books librarian at the University of Southern Mississippi and working for the archives division of the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office in Baton Rouge. Welcome, Dave! Dave and his wife Kristine are newly married (January 1st of 2016) and have a blended family of three sons and one daughter with ages ranging from 12 to 27. Dave is an active cyclist and a slow runner, and is a veteran traveler of Route 66. He has lived in Cairo, Egypt, and London, England; and has worked on library development projects in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Ghana, West Africa. Last but not least, he is an expert at running fundraising events that involve fine wine and rare books. |
