Last week Monique Devillier and Alan Stanek served as Greeters. Ranny Perez gave the invocation. Bob Loos led the singing. President Roxy Orr recognized all the Veterans as a Rotarians that "Light Up Rotary". We had several announcements, presentations and two new member introductions. Secretary Nick Jasa introduced John Ryan as the "Rotarian of the Day". Mike Eck introduced Greg McDermott and John Binderup presented Greg with the Omahans of the Year Award for Greg and his son Doug McDermott. Coach McDermott spoke about the upcoming Creighton basketball season. The RISK bag was at $113 and Steve Oltmans won a free lunch.
Last week Holly Hollenbeck introduced new member Gordon Wehner. Gordon is a Commercial Insurance Broker at Marcotte Insurance and handles property casualty as well as group benefits. Gordon is a University of Nebraska graduate and Omaha native.
Gordon is a newlywed, married to Ann since this June. He is the founder of several networking groups including Order of Beer Thirty and helps run other groups such as the Big O Networking Group. In his free time, Gordon loves to travel, ATV riding, and outdoor thrill-seeking such as sky-diving and cliff-diving. Welcome, Gordon!
Last week Roxy Orr introduced us to new member Dave Kerber. Dave is the Founder of Agape Red, a software development and consulting company. Dave is actively involved with the developer community in Omaha and frequently attends developer-led meetings around town. Dave is also involved in Toastmasters and is a member of the steering committee for the Omaha Chamber's Business Owner Success Series.
Dave is married to Abbie and they have three children: Katherine, Elizabeth, and James. Welcome, Dave!

Every year each Rotarian is asked to donate $100 to the Rotary Foundation in support of programs that alleviate disease, hunger, poverty, and promote peach and understanding. We have seen the benefit of supporting the Rotary Foundation in the last few years with matching grants to support the Deaf School in Nicaragua and the girls' school in Afghanistan. The generosity of Rotarians around the world make these projects (and thousands like them) possible.
Please consider joining your fellow Rotarians by becoming a Sustaining Member this year with a $100 donation (or any amount is appreciated!). You can even donate monthly with as little as $10 per month. Our goal is 100% participation! First-time donors have the opportunity to get a match from the club so your first $100 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship will be turned into $200.

It's time for that annual Suburban Rotary tradition- bell ringing for the Salvation Army! Due to some scheduling issues with JCPenney/Salvation Army, we have new locations: Bakers at 155th and Dodge and 2 HyVee Stores (90th and Center and 132nd and Dodge). We will ring bells on Saturday, November 29th and Saturday, December 13th from 10am-4pm in 1.5 hour shifts. All shifts will be outside so please dress warmly and wear your Rotarian At Work t-shirt over your coat.
We have 4 shifts at 5 locations on two dates so we need 80 volunteers. Please feel free to sign up your friends, families, kids, grandkids, etc. Just register them as "Bob's kids, etc."
To sign up click on the event in the newsletter or on the calendar on the website, then it will ask you to login. After logging in, choose BELL RINGING and pick your shift.
It's time to start collecting for the annual Santa's Workshop at Crestridge Magnet School.
Each year, Crestridge Elementary School sets up a “store” to shop for holiday gifts for children that are in need. These children come into the store and may pick out a gift for each of their family members. Last year, there were 80 – 90 kids that came through the shop. With the help of the Crestridge School, we have made a “wish list” of items that are most chosen by the kids, and a list of items that they wish not to be donated. The date of the event is December 15th. We are hoping for each Rotarian to donate gently used or new item(s) to help make the Santa Shop a success. These items do not need to be expensive.
Wish list….Key chains, wallets, ties, little purses, cutesy kid socks, adult socks, coffee mugs, tools, men’s and women’s cologne, sports stuff, makeup, jewelry, stuffed animals, UNO cards, playing cards, coloring books and crayons, scarves, mittens, toys, baby toys, cutesy picture frames…or tissue paper and gift bags of all sizes.
Since we know that people’s lives are busy, we are offering an easy shopping idea this year. We will have two baskets available for purchase, one for $10 and one for $20. These baskets will contain assorted items from the wish list. We will have baskets available for purchase at our next meeting on November 6th. Of course, you may make a cash donation in any amount and that will be used to purchase items for the shop. Thank you very much for helping make this year’s Santa Shop a success.
