Last week Dan Lupardus, Monique Devillier, and Stephanie Devillier served as Greeters. Judy Cline gave the invocation. We had several announcements and two new member introductions. Julie Livingston introduced District Governor Rod Bates who tried to give his talk while several Suburban Rotary members and Past DGs tried to conduct a fundraiser public television-style during his presentation. All in good fun, DG Bates talked about the "Be a Gift to the World" theme for this Rotary year. The risk bag was at $35 and Tracy Rowland won a free lunch for the second week in a row.
Last week Marlene Sullivan introduced us to new member Rex Ekwall. Rex became semi-retired in March when he sold Rite Way Oil and Gas and his convenience store chain known as Shell/SpeeDee Mart after 50 years in business. Rex still maintains his office on 84th St. and has some commercial property and farms that he manages.
Rex is a UNL graduate and a former Husker basketball player. He holds the scoring and rebounding records and is in the Hall of Fame there. He is married to Loretta and they have two children and six grandchildren.
Rex was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight for many years providing transportation for low-income patients. In his free time, Rex enjoys sports events and travel. Welcome, Rex!
Last week Rich Rowland introduced us to new member Magan Smith. Magan is the Director of Business Development with Turner and Associates, an Omaha-based technology consulting firm. She is a former Rotarian from Council Bluffs noon when she worked for the American Cancer Society.
Magan is an Iowa State graduate and is active in the community having served on the Joslyn Castle Neighborhood Association, Emerging Terrain, and several committees at St. Cecilia. She is married to Tim and they have four children. In her free time, Magan enjoys kickboxing, volunteering, traveling, tennis, and family time. Welcome, Magan!
