Last week Sarah Kalhorn-Wisecup and Penny McWilliams served as our Greeters. Rev. John Schaefer gave the invocation. We had several announcements and presentations. Judy Cline introduced Ghulam Isaczai, former United Nations Rep. to N. Korea, and he talked about the need for humanitarian assistance in North Korea. The risk bag was at $142 and Jack Hosking won a free lunch.
Last week Penny McWilliams announced that in the 4th year the Baxter-Kenworthy volleyball tournament raised $11,500 to be used for scholarships through the Suburban Rotary Scholarship Program. Wow! Congratulations and thank you to Penny for all her work! President Curt Peters recognized Penny and all the volleyball tournament players as a "Gift to the World" last week with Rotary hats.
Congratulations to Danny Dunbar- 1 year and Walt Horner-32 years who were recognized for perfect attendance by Participation Chair Terri Greenwood last week. Danny also received his permanent badge from Yearlings Chair Holly Hollenbeck last week as well. Congrats guys!
It's time for our annual Paint-A-Thon. We will be doing prep work in the evening next week Tuesday-Friday and then painting in two shifts on 8/15. Please sign up to help online or at meeting at the back table. It takes lots of volunteers to transform a house for an elderly or disabled homeowner!
For the next 4 weeks members of the Military Affairs Committee will be sitting at the back table selling Savings Sidekick coupon books. They are $20 and proceeds will benefit projects for area service people. In the past the MA committee has supported a Winter Wonderland event for families of deployed troops, a camp for children of soldiers with special needs, a holiday dinner for soldiers, etc. You can also donate books to area military families by making a donation to the MA committee. Donations of $100 or more can be to the Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation for tax purposes.
We want to invite you to a Northwest Rotary fellowship on Thursday, August 13th. It is "Movie Night" at the home of our club president, Gene Gau. There will be hot dogs/brats, side dishes and beverages. Food will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the movie "Caddyshack" will be shown at 8:00 p.m. Club members and guests are invited. There is no cost but we are asking for PolioPlus donations. Please email Vickie Backman nwrotary@cox.net for a reservation so we can have plenty of food for our guests. Gene has a large building on his property where he and his wife keep their corvettes and entertain for a picnic type event. Gene and his wife are both members of the Cornhusker Corvette Club and both participate in racing competitions. Their corvettes, trophies and memorabilia are an added attraction in addition to dinner and a movie. We hope you can join us. See additional details below.
