Last week George Morgan gave the invocation. Dan Christensen and Bailey Feekin served as greeters. Dick Caulk presented the Suburban Rotarian of the Year award to Rich Craig who was surprised by his family and friends in attendance. We had several other announcements and presentations as well as some fines handed out by Secretary Kevin Welsh. Curt Peters recognized Dan Lupardus as a "Gift to the World" for all his trips back to the office to bring things to Rotary that Curt forgot. Jack Hosking introduced Gerry Phelan who talked to us about ethics in business. The RISK bag was up to $137 and Dave Nelson won a free lunch.
Last week Dick Caulk, Chair of the 4 Way Test Committee, presented Rich Craig as the Suburban Rotarian of the Year. Rich is an outstanding member who consistently provides service above himself by helping with service projects, club needs, and support of our local and International Foundations. Rich is currently serving as Treasurer of the Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation and is a Trustee at-large.
Rich is the owner of Midlands Printing and Business Forms located at 107th and O Street. To witness and experience this day, Rich was surprised by his wife Paula and several members of his family as well as some out-of-town friends. Congratulations, Rich!
Last week Wei Rowe introduced us to new member John Lin.
John was born in Chicago but moved to Omaha before Kindergarten. He attended Millard North Middle and High School, then went to Philadelphia for college at the University of Pennsylvania - Wharton School. After graduation he was in Asia for almost 6 years and worked at HSBC in the Global Banking & Markets department in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Beijing. He returned to Omaha last February and is now happily working at American National Bank as an Assistant Vice President in the Corporate Banking department.
Recently when he attended a former colleague’s wedding in Toronto, he and his family/friends were all very excited when he sent up a large container of Omaha Steaks as his wedding gift, and he is looking forward to further promoting Omaha and Rotary at the same time when his Polish friend visits in July, and for the years to come.
John has also been active in the community volunteering in the past for Millard Public Library, Immanuel Medical Center, and coaching a YMCA basketball team.
Last week Foundation Chair Julie Livingston recognized Bob Perrin and Nate Schwalb for their giving to the International Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation supports causes around the world including health, nutrition, literacy, and disease-eradication efforts. Rotary Foundation funds have been used by our club to send science kits to the girls' school in Afghanistan, as well as for local projects such as the Crestridge Health Fair.
Nate received his Paul Harris+1 for his donations of $2000 to the Rotary Foundation. Bob Perrin received his PH+5 for his donations of $6000 to the Rotary Foundation. They both sited some unusual reasons for giving- Bob because Paul Harris pins are "sexy" and Nate because he heard "giving makes your hair grow". Well, whatever your reason, thanks for your generosity!
The 5th Annual Baxter-Kenworthy volleyball tournament will be held on July 23rd. We are looking to form a committee of people to help with this event as it has grown substantially over the past few years.
We are very fortunate to have all of the proceeds from this event go to our scholarship program. Please let Jennifer know if you are willing to help.

Angeline Larson reports that baby Baby Anders is still in the NICU since he arrived early and they hope to take him home in a week. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Here's a picture of the cutie.

Summary of the Presentation
Every five seconds, another person enters slavery somewhere in the world. It is estimated that there are over 35 million people in slavery today – more than any other time in history. One minute it might be a fifteen year old girl forced into prostitution, or a young boy forced onto a fishing boat to work 18 hours a day for years without coming to port. To make sense of this crime against humanity, Matt and Sylvia Friedman will offer a compressive update on the State-of-the-Art of human slavery. Matt and Sylvia’s talk will explore the changing human trafficking paradigm; the relationship between human trafficking and slavery; global trends and patterns; new, emerging responses; evolving funding trends; what is working/not working; the role of the private sector; and what is really needed to win the fight. The presentation will offer a glimpse behind the curtain of this terrible human rights abuse – one that is much closer to home than we might expect.

Matt Friedman
Matt Friedman is an international human trafficking expert with more than 25 years of experience as a manager, program designer, evaluator, and front-line responder. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of The Mekong Club, an organization made up of Hong Kong-based private sector business leaders who have joined forces to help fight human trafficking in Asia. Matt was the Regional Project Manager of the U.N.
Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking in Thailand from 2006-2012. He has presented to the United Nations, the World Bank, U.S. State Department and the Vatican. He has been featured in news coverage by the NY Times, BBC, National Geographic, and CNN among other publications.
Sylvia Yu Friedman
Sylvia Yu is a Hong Kong-based award-winning Canadian journalist, TV anchor, documentary producer, book author and advisor to philanthropists. She was the winner of the prestigious 2013 International Human Rights Press Award (TV Special Merit) for her series on human trafficking and slavery in China, Hong Kong and Thailand. Sylvia has managed and directed more than US$9 million to humanitarian projects since 2005 that have impacted at the very least more than one million people.
We have been approached to help provide volunteers for a run/walk on 25th. Since we did not have a planned service project, we have offered to help find volunteers for this event. Please read the below and then click on the link at the bottom to sign up for a duty. Be sure to get a ROTARIAN AT WORK t-shirt from Jennifer if you don't have one. This event counts for attendance credit as well as a Yearlings service credit.
"We are in need of volunteers for our upcoming Take Steps Walk, scheduled for Saturday, June 25 at Chalco Hills Recreation Area/ The Omaha Take Steps walk is expected to exceed 800 attendees this year. We will have a kids' zone, raffle and other activities. Proceeds from the walk will support multiple local programs as well as nationwide CCFA initiatives. Locally, proceeds will help support area children who attend Camp Oasis for children with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, our educational events for families & caregivers, and research initiatives. The fastest growing population of patients are children under age 18; these diseases were previously thought to most commonly strike young adults.

Rotary Leadership Institute provides an opportunity for Rotary Club Members to discover Rotary. This is not "position-specific training". It is a facilitated, activity-based program that allows all participants to share experiences and solve problems. We all work together:

SW Rotary is planning their 8th Annual Wine Tasting event which will be held in October and will once again benefit the Boys Town National Hotline.
