Last week David Jacobs and Ranny Perez served as Greeters. Leah Koch gave the invocation. We had several announcements and presentations. Roxy Orr recognized Rotarian bell-ringers as Rotarians who "Light Up Rotary" for their efforts in making us the #1 service club in raising funds for the Salvation Army by bell-ringing this year. We had a new member introduction. Nick Jasa introduced Frank Lastovica as the Rotarian of the Day. Fundraising Chair Kathryn Schubert introduced the annual fundraiser. Matt Darling and David Jacobs presented information on the Foundation and the programs it supports. The first round of Scholarship Circle members were recognized. The RISK bag was at $409 and Lisa Walker Sekundiak won a free lunch.

Last week Suburban Rotary was deeply honored to be presented a United States flag that had been flown in Operation Enduring Freedom. The flag was presented by Barry Wilkinson from the Friends of the Family Support Center at Offutt. The presentation was done to thank Suburban Rotarians for all of their support in providing funding for various programs for military families including appreciation dinners, winter wonderland, camps for veterans and special-needs children of soldiers. Thank you to Roger Groff and the Military Affairs committee for working so hard on these fundraisers and projects and to all Suburban Rotarians for their support.
Last week David Kutler introduced new member Renee Hardester. Renee is the President/CEO of Fit in the City, a corporate and community wellness company. She also owns The Underground Fitness Center in Ralston. Renee grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D. and holds a B.S. from the University of Minnesota. Renee is married to Bruce and has two teenage children. In her free time, Renee enjoys travel, cooking, and walking the family dogs, Jack and Penny.
Last week Matt Darling presented Friends of Suburban Rotary recognition to Susan Huntley-Gruenther and Kay Farrell for their donations of $2500 to the Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation. The Suburban Rotary Foundation supports our Scholarship program as well as other local and international projects.
Last week the Fundraising committee kicked off our annual Suburban Rotary Charitable Foundation Fundraiser.
So far we have raised $15,523!
Our goal is participation in any amount from all of our members. To make it easy, you can make a one-time donation in any amount or pledge monthly as little as $10 a month. A donation of $300 or a monthly pledge of $25 will make you a member of our 2015 President's Scholarship Circle. Scholarship Circle members will be recognized at our meeting with a certificate as well as on the slideshow, newsletter, and website. Thank you to those who have already donated this year. Our friends from Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital (John C. Glenn & Mary Gene Wepfer) will also be joining us in hosting this after hours. You are welcome to bring guests and we hope you enjoy touring our studio space.
Rotary Leadership Institute offers a leadership course in three full day parts (Parts I, II, III). Those completing each part are eligible for the next part. The courses are designed to provide Rotary knowledge and to develop leadership skills for voluntary organizations. Some examples of course sessions include "Rotary Beyond the Club", "The Rotary Foundation", "Membership Development and Retention", "Leadership", "Creating Hands On Service Projects", "Vocational Service", "International Service", "Analyzing a Rotary Club", "Creative Service" and other subjects.
The next session is Saturday, March 21st in Lincoln. If you are interested in attending, we have club funds to pay for up to 9 members to attend. Please contact Jennifer.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 26th for the Metro Rotary Networking Night. This is an event for Rotarians and guests from all over the metro area to socialize and promote your business. It will be held at Champions Country Club and a business booth is $75. Guests are welcome but only Rotarians may have booths. Please contact Jennifer or Leah Wurth to reserve your booth.
